Recommendations & Guidelines

Complete U.S. Soccer Grassroots Courses, which is a part of the Federation’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of coaches at all levels.

After completing a free introductory module, the breakdown of the courses is a balance between:

four in-person experiences

four online experiences

Whether you are a coach who is just starting out, or you are a long-time coaching veteran,
you will have the option to engage in any of the new courses, in any sequence.

NTSSA Coaching Education Program

Purpose:  To enhance the experience of, and opportunities for, NTSSA players, coaches, and parents.

Applicability

  • Designed for Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and Team Managers.
  • Does not exclude parents and players from taking part in the education process.

NTSSA Coaching Education Program

  • Includes National License courses designed by the U.S. Soccer Federation and courses designed by US Youth Soccer.
  • Provides up-to-date theoretical and practical knowledge so that coaches can ensure that players develop to their full potential.
  • Provides guidelines, while not mandated, for those individuals working with our players.

NTSSA and U.S. Soccer Grassroot Courses

The four, two-hour, Online Grassroots License Courses are offered by U.S. Soccer through the USSLC, while the four, four-hour, In-Person courses are organized and run by North Texas Soccer.

U.S. Soccer Coaching Modules

The Introduction to Grassroots Coaching Module, the first step to progress within the coaching pathway, contains the U.S. Soccer’s coaching education philosophy and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

The emphasis of the following 8 courses will be on empowering coaches through experiential learning and a player-centered approach in direct relation to small-sided games and the calendar age groups.  The courses are divided into 4v4, 7v7, 9v9, and 11v11 modules.

How to access and take U.S. Soccer’s Introduction to Grassroots Coaching Module:

  1. Visit the U.S. Soccer Learning Center (USSLC)
  2. SIGN UP (free of charge) or login to your profile
  3. Select COURSES from the top menu
  4. Under AVAILABLE COURSES, select “Begin Course” to launch the introductory module.
  5. Complete U.S. Soccer’s Introduction to Grassroots Coaching.
